SEARCH FOR ‘10 LOCAL TIGER WOODS’ ANNOUNCED BY PREMIUM GOLF SCHOOLS, NORTHWICK PARK
Local school children are being given the chance to become the next Tiger Woods in a pioneering new golf scholarship scheme launched by Premium Golf Schools, based at Playgolf Northwick Park.
Youngsters visiting the Harrow-based academy’s Open Week, from 8th to 14th April, will join in a new ‘Search For A Star’ programme designed to reveal the local area’s hottest young golfing prospects.
The ten most promising youngsters will then be offered scholarships on a new junior development programme, which aims to identify and maximise individual potential to produce winners.
The Open Week is being run by Premium Golf Schools, who operate all golf teaching facilities at Playgolf Northwick Park, the £7 million family golf and leisure complex.
Other highlights of the Open Week are a demonstration from World Golf Trick Shot Champion, Paul Barrington, which starts at 10:00 on Sunday 8 April. There will also be a ‘Beat The Pro’ competition, a ‘Hole in One’ competition, and £1,000 worth of Callaway golf equipment to be won in a prize draw running all week.
“We are hoping to unearth an amazing local talent during our Open Week,†said Hugh Marr, Performance Director of Premium Golf Schools.
“Thousands of youngsters have experienced golf for the first time in our first six months here, but we know that many thousands more potential new young golfers live in the Harrow and Wembley area.
“Maybe one of them will have what it takes to beat Tiger Woods one day. And the unique thing is that a complete beginner could win a scholarship!â€
The Premium Golf Schools Scholarship Programme starts by assessing raw talent and tests general physical skills (like co-ordination, balance and control) that are fundamental to all sports.
It identifies what stage of development each child is at, an individual improvement programme is then formed and instructors then begin improving both their golf skills and their all-round physical skills.
Added Hugh: “This is the only golf programme that could actually improve ability in other sports as well. It’s also a lot of fun and a great way to make new friends.â€Â Â
Â
Premium Golf Schools are beginning to work with P.E. teachers of local schools to use golf as a means to improve the physical literacy of their pupils. The combination of this programme, the expert coaches and Playgolf Northwick Park’s excellent practice facilities prove a winning combination.Â
Children can register for open week by calling Playgolf Northwick Park on 0208 422 6697.
